I remember Theresa posting on facebook that she was engaged, and she was marrying a guy who lived in a Yurt. I had to know what a yurt was and I also was curious of the date so I asked her when the big day was! Right then and there we hooked up and figured I’d be shooting her wedding! I was so excited for her! We had played flute together in high school and she put up with my tacky pirate jokes my entire senior year of band! (golly that was 8 years ago!!)
I finally met Kurt (yes Kurt who was the Yurt dweller, yes it rhymes!!) when they came up to sign the contract, chit chat, have some brunch at the bville diner and to paint my office! (Busy day) Yes, these folks are the lovely folks who helped me out a TON with the 2nd coat and final touches in my office, paint wise! I couldn’t be more thankful! They did a great job and saved me a ton of stress!
So the forecast on Theresa & Kurts wedding day was rain, rain and more rain. heavy thundesrtorms and talk of a tornado. NOT COOL. I was nervous all day long, I probably bit all of my nails down to an uncomfortable level. BUT to our surprise, it ended up being the most beautiful spring evening in the history of the world. (Phew.) I’ll let the rest of the story speak by the photos I’m posting! ready…set.. LOOK!

The Details
Hair: I had my hair done by the same woman who has cut my hair throughout my entire childhood, so it was very special to me to include her in our wedding in that way (Gail at the Hair Gallery in Fulton). I wore it half-up/half-down, with large, loose-hanging curls, and a Swarovski crystal headband.
Makeup Artist: My makeup artist was a young woman named Bri from Hair We Are in Fulton… She was really sweet and friendly and very helpful and talented. My wedding was actually the first time I’ve ever worn makeup!
Dress Designer & Store Location: My 1950′s dress was from my favorite store: Unique-Vintage located in Burbank, CA. The dress designer was unknown. There was no tag, it was vintage. {Their Facebook}
Jewelry: I wore a necklace that Kurt gave to me on the wedding day. It was a surprise and I didn’t see it until he gave it to me (which made me nervous that it wouldn’t match!). It was a green, heart-shaped, Connemara marble (this is a type of marble that is only found in Ireland, which is my family’s heritage). I wore no other jewelry (I don’t have pierced ears) except my sparkly headband and my wedding and engagement rings, which are both yellow gold and diamond.
Veil or Hair accessories: Swarovski crystal and pearl vine bridal comb headband.
Shoes: My shoes were vintage as well, no designer name. They were white, two-inch heels, with crystals. The toe part was elongated and pointed, and the middle/sides of the shoes were see-through mesh with crystals and pearls.
Bridesmaids Dresses: We chose not to have a bridal party because we wanted to keep the ceremony very intimate and we couldn’t choose between our many friends. The marriage license was signed by one of my younger brother’s and Kurt’s older sister.
Grooms Attire: Kurt’s outfit was also vintage, with no known designer. He got his 1970′s suit from the Rusty Zipper, which is located in Scotts Mills, Oregon. His suit was chocolate brown colored with plaid detail in the jacket and suede patches over the elbows. His tie was bright red. His shirt was dark gold (yellow is my fave color). His boutineer was red and made of feathers, sticks, and berries rather than flowers. It was eco-friendly and ordered from Etsy.com. I gave it to him as a surprise on the wedding day.
Ceremony & Reception Venue: Fallbrook Barn in Oswego, NY.
Florist: We picked wildflowers from the side of the road on the wedding morning. They were bright colored, native to the area, and organic (no pesticides). They were placed in recycled glass bottles, which we borrowed from a family member (which means they were being re-used in addition to being recycled). There was no bouquet (to further be eco-friendly). The other flowers on the tables, that surrounded the centerpiece, were made of birch bark wood that had been found on the ground (no trees were cut down to make the decor), and dyed with organic dye. They were also found on Etsy.com.
Music: Beautiful & very talented string quartet based out of Fayetteville, NY called Candlelight Music.
Special Ceremony Music: All of the music was special and beautiful!
Caterer: SUNY Oswego Campus Catering.
Cake: n/a. But we did have a full dessert bar with a variety of cakes and pies for the guests to choose from including cheese cake, pecan pie, german chocolate cake, etc. and chocolate covered strawberries and full coffee & tea selections!
Event Designer: Ourselves!
Wedding Coordinator: We did it all!
Invitations & Stationary: Forever Fiances. The invitations were made with 100% recycled paper and were embedded with wildflower seeds so the guests could plant them in the ground after they no longer needed them as opposed to throwing them out. The company that made them is carbon-neutral, and donated part of the profits of our purchase to environmental organizations. The invitations were designed to not include an envelope or any additional/excess paper. We had a wedding website to convey the extra details that are typically shoved inside wedding invitations such as accommodations, registry, etc. The flowers that grow from the invitations are meant to represent our growing/blossoming love.
Other: Overall, we wanted the wedding to be intimate, classy, elegant, natural/eco-friendly, and non-traditional. We didn’t do most of the cookie cutter things done at all other weddings such as bouquet toss, cake-cutting, first dance, etc…. and we really don’t think these events were missed by any of our guests and certainly not by us. We just wanted to have a fancy, delicious dinner with our family and friends and enjoy classical music and dressy clothes and celebrate our love!
