Frequently Asked Questions
Did you go to school for photography or did you teach yourself? I went to school for photography, but that was back when they were teaching traditional photography.. You know, film, negatives and processing your images in a darkroom. (I loved it!!) But after studying photo, I took some time off to travel. I went back to school right after my travels to study graphic design. I then learned a lot more about photoshop and editing techniques which I then applied to my photography. So, yes I did go to school for photo, and I know both traditional and digital as well as graphic design! But, I’ve taught myself a lot, too!
What do I wear to my photo session? Color, patterns, anything fun and interesting. I wouldn’t suggest too much pattern but a little perhaps in a skirt or some plaid shorts and a plain top. Also, I wouldn’t suggest character tee’s or the color yellow. Yellow isn’t flattering on a lot of body types. Fuchsia also doesn’t work too well, but if you’re dying to wear either of those colors then do it!
Wear what you LOVE! wear your favorite dress, sandals, etc. Wear or bring something comfortable for your feet in case there is a surprise rock climbing session to get to an awesome spot! Here are a few links to ideas that I’ve posted before Here.
What do I need to bring to my session? You can bring anything you want! Props work well for photo sessions, anything that will help explain YOU! Bubbles, flowers, candies, a funky chair, vintage cameras, hats, scarves, ties, sunglasses, any and all accessories or items. I’d suggest a few different outfits as well just in case you’d like to switch it up. Sessions with little ones: Bring some water and snacks to help tide them over if they are fussy or if it’s close to snack time! Anything that wont color lips or teeth!
We want to keep them clean and happy.
Where can we have a session? We can have a session anywhere. I’ve got some favorite spots if you know if you want more urban/rustic/nature/water or whatever. I’m big on architecture, textures and colors so anywhere that involves any or all of those. I am willing to travel to your location of choice, but if it’s outside the Syracuse/Oswego area, there may be a travel fee.
How far in advance should I book my wedding or my session with you? I normally start booking weddings for the following season during the fall and winter months. September through March. If I’ve got your date open after these months, then consider yourself in luck and we’ll go from there! For lifestyle photo sessions, just contact me two or three weeks in advance to plan for your date.
What do you shoot with? I shoot with canon bodies, lenses, flashes and I have plenty of batteries and memory cards!
Do you have backup equipment? I do, I also hire a 2nd shooter for all of the weddings I shoot. So they are my third form backup and their backup gear is my fourth form of backup!
Do you have a studio for portraits? I don’t have a studio but I do have an office space where I do my client consultations, hang my work, hang out, edit sessions and weddings, and lounge in the tattoo shop that I’m connected with. It’s a great location and I work right next to great people! If you are interested in studio portraits, I can recommend a few for you to choose from.
