    52Portraits: Gerd Ludwig

    Saturday, February 4th, 2012

So, I was lucky enough to attend Gerd Ludwigs SU Newhouse event Thursday night. Regardless of feeling very ill and having 0 energy I made the trek to have a pita from Pita Pit with Jenn, then a nice warrrm mocha latte from starbucks and we headed over about 40 minutes early to grab our seats, some conversation and to enjoy our beverages!

Gerd chatted about his photos for nearly two hours and it was just breath taking. It’s always very inspiring when I get to be an audience member of someone who has done such huge projects, and golly, even for National Geographic! Whew! I could make a summary of everything he talked about but I’ll do it in one word, Chernobyl. It was amazing.

I told myself that Gerd would be my portrait for week 5 and I kept to my word! Here it is!

    52Portraits: One Hello World

    Thursday, January 26th, 2012

This week’s portrait was taken at tonights Salon: Strictly Local opening. This was an art opening at The Gallery at the Technology Garden in downtown Syracuse. Might I say this was a pretty awesome event! There were TONS of people there, tons of art and barely any off street parking. I circled the block and the nearby blocks in search of a nearby spot, seeing it was rainy out and I didn’t have my umbrella handy. I circled back around in front of the building and scored a spot RIGHT in front! woo. Along with amazing artwork, finger foods, some wine and Middle Ages beer, there sat Jared of One Hello World. Playing beautiful soundtracks on his Korg to voice recordings from anonymous callers who leave voicemails talking about being in love to being addicted to drugs and everything in between.
I had looked into One Hello World prior of coming to the opening thanks to the Facebook event invite listing everyone who would be there! I read up on the project and I guess an easy way of explaining One Hello World would be an audio version of Post Secret. I think it’s going to blow up, personally, and I’m excited to share his portrait and his work in this week’s 52Portraits! :)

    52Portraits: Yuka

    Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

I met the subject for the 3rd week of 52Portraits at Roji Tea Lounge tonight! Yuki, was our host and was thrown off a little that I had asked her to take her photo! She said that no one has ever asked her if they could take her picture, but she was willing and excited! It’s a great feeling to make a slight “bump” in someones day by taking their photograph. Everyone I have talked to so far has been a little thrown off but very excited and willing to contribute to my project.
