{Tutorial Tuesday} Legit black and white images!

    Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

    first

Say goodbye to your desaturate button or any other easy cop outs when it comes to making your photos b&w here is a really easy and non destructive way to make your photos look great in black and white!

    1. You’re going to want to pick out a photo that you’d like to turn black and white! I chose my pal Kati! In this photo she was pregnant for her little girl, Taylor. I’ve blogged about both Kati’s preggo session and Taylor at 7 months!

    2. So after you picked out your image, you’re going to want to go up to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Black and White. Press OK to the message that pops open! It’s going to create a layer on top of your original image therefor it doesn’t destroy your base image and you can always turn off the layer you’re working with to have your original intact.

    3. It’s going to show your image in a plain old black and white with the black and white adjustments box open. You can move the color bars to fit your style and preferences.
I’ll show my preferences at first and then what I ended up with!

    4. ALSO! I went to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Brightness and Contrast and bumped up the brightness a bit because it was seeming a bit dark for my taste.

Here is my final image! :)

{Tutorial Tuesday} Text around an object!

    Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

    1

First I chose a photo I wanted to add some text to. Then I took it into photoshop and selected the pen tool! I also made sure that the paths icon was selected up in the options palette.

    2

Once I have the pen tool and the paths icon both selected I then started placing the path on my image to create the outline of where I wanted my text to go. I chose the area over Haystack Rock.

    3

As you can see, There are curved lines on my image. In order to curve the path, I went and held down the pen tool and selected the Convert Point Tool. Then I took to each point and dragged it to create a curve.

    4

After you use the convert point tool to create your curved lines you can select the type tool and bring it right to the path.
You will see the cursor change to have a slash through it, which means it will be typing on your newly created path.
Once you’re done typing please remember that the path in which you are typing on is not visible in your final result.
It’s only visible when you click on the layer with text on it. I usually click on a different layer to see my text without the path.

    {Tutorial Tuesday} Polaroid a Photo!

    Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

    1

    First I opened the polaroid image that I downloaded {here}
Step 1. I wanted to get rid of the white space so I used the magic wand tool and selected the white area.
Step 2. I then noticed that it didn’t make a clean selection so I grabbed my rectangular marquee tool and hit the minus selection tab.
I drew a rectangle around the Polaroid to create a clean selection.

    2

Step 3. Once I fixed my selection I went to edit, cut and the white went away! Phew! :)
Now It’s free to go on any color background it desires!

Step 4. I took my Polaroid image and chose the magic wand tool and selected the black area.
Then I found an image that I wanted to turn into a Polaroid and opened it in photoshop. Then I went to select, all to select the entire image. Then I went to edit, copy to copy the image. I went back to my Polaroid that is waiting patiently and went to edit, paste special, paste into. This allowed my copied image to go straight into the layer I wanted it to. I then resized my image and put it where I wanted it to go!
